Contractor was born from Mumbai in India she was raised in Nigeria through the age of seven. She had already experienced a lot of travel and different cultures at a very early age. In addition, she obtained a master's degree in Theater. Contractor auditioned at the prestigious Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Ontario, Canada, for Pericles. After a full year, she was given the leading role. The play was well-received in the 92 plays she appeared in. She was awarded an award in 2002, which was awarded to the most outstanding production of the Year by Canadian Critics. She was invited to enroll in Stratford's conservatory, a program which allows just four men and eight women can take a 20 weeks crash program in classical theatre.
